DIY Gathered Waist Dress – Miri Tank Top Pattern Hack

DIY Gathered Waist Dress – Miri Tank Top Pattern Hack

Hello sew-friends! Today, I'm happy to bring you another Miri Tank hack! A couple weeks ago, I shared the Square Neck Button Back hack and today, I have a gathered waist dress for you. I'm often wary of gathers and ruffles but I really like how they've turned out in this dress. It feels weird to say, but I actually like it more than I thought I would!

This hack is really pretty easy to sew (much, much easier than the previous hack). Plus, I have a few tutorials that will help. I think this is a great dress for summer and it can even be worn in transitional months with a cardigan or a t-shirt underneath. You may even be able to wear it in colder months with leggings and turtleneck.

Today's tutorial is a follower request! In today's video, I'll be showing you how to sew in-seam pockets. I think it's pretty universally agreed that everyone loves pockets and garments are instantly 100% better when they incorporate them. In-seam pockets can be added to the side seam of a dress, skirt, pants or shorts. They are probably the most commonly found type of pocket (I did not research that statement! lol). But, I do think they are the most beginner friendly and that's why they are found in so many sewing patterns. They are nearly invisible when wearing and do not alter the style lines of a garment. Which means, because all that stitching is on the interior, it doesn't have to be perfect or topstitched, like a patch pocket. Also, if your sewing pattern doesn't come with an in-seam pocket pattern piece, I even have one for you to download for free.

Today, I'm very excited to share a hack for my latest pattern, the Miri Tank. The Miri is a woven tank with a slight A-line shape, a bust dart in the side seam and is finished with a facing. View A features a rounded neck and armholes and view B has a v-neckline and squared off armholes and back neck edge. The basic features of the tank make it great for hacking and modifying.
