My summer wardrobe is never complete without a swingy linen top. The combination of the swingy shape and the breathable linen makes for a cool and comfortable garment that can be paired with pants, shorts and narrow skirts with ease. And during the transitional seasons, you can throw a cardigan over the top and be ready to brave the more variable temps. Read on to see how I would DIY this fun and casual summer top.
How to DIY a Summer Swing Tank
Step 1: Today's ready-to-wear inspiration is the Cove Top from Steven Alan. I love the angled design lines of this top. The high neck perfectly balances the slightly cropped length making for an interesting and chic look.
Step 2: The pattern I would use to DIY this top is the Collins Top (view B) by In The Folds. The design lines are so similar that really nothing would need to be altered. I've sewn a couple of patterns by In The Folds before and they are excellently drafted and a pleasure to work with. So while I haven't used this one (yet!), I'm sure it is equally stellar.
Step 3: Our inspiration top is made in an olive green linen and the Collins Top pattern is well suited for linen, so let's carry one with this classic, summer friendly fabric. I found a Robert Kaufman Essex Linen in olive green available from Harts Fabric that would fit the bill perfectly.
