In this video tutorial, I’ll show you how to sew a pair of quilted bootie-style slippers with a lining. I’m using my Quilted Slippers pattern which I released back in June. It’s been one of my most popular patterns and it’s a really fun one to sew. It’s a small project and great for using scrap fabric, like I did here. This project also makes a great gift. The pattern is drafted for a wide range of sizes from US Women’s 4 up to a US Men’s 14.

In this video, I’m assembling the bootie style of the slippers pattern. I covered how to quilt your fabric in this video. Make sure to also check out the sewalong for more help. This pattern is fairly easy to sew but I have rated it as an intermediate level for a couple of reasons. First, quilting your own fabric is probably a new skill and not something usually done in garment sewing. Second, sewing the curved edges of the slipper can be a little tricky. But just take it slow, and everything will fit together nice and easy.

The Quilted Slippers pattern has both a bootie and a skimmer style included. I really like the skimmer for warm months and the bootie for winter. For this pair, I used two layers of batting on the sole to give it extra warmth and cushioning.

I made these slippers using scraps of fabric from my many garment making adventures. I used my personal method of improvisational piecing to put them together and I love how they look. If you want to learn how to make improvisational quilts using your fabric scraps, I recently released an e-course that will teach you how. You can learn more about that course right here.

When wearing the booties, you can wear them with the opening edge up for extra warmth, or fold it down to reveal the lining. There’s also an optional heel tab that I like to add purely for the look of it. It’s a fun way to add a bit of contrast and it’s a nice design detail.
