DIY Knit Shorts Jumpsuit

A few months ago I made my first knit jumpsuit, with long pants, wrap front and cool collar detail. It's so amazingly comfortable that I had to make myself another one. Seeing as it's endless summer in LA, I opted to go for a shorts version this time.

I bought the fabric from a store in west LA called Fabric Planet. I had never been there before and it was great to discover something new to me. They have a great selection (floor to ceiling!) and it wasn't hard for me to quickly find something I loved. The fabric is a lightweight knit but not at all sheer. I really like the print. It's fairly bold but the colors are very staid.

Initially I thought it would be overwhelming to do the full length pants in this print but after putting it together, I think it would have looked really good. Oh well! I didn't buy enough fabric for long pants so shorts it is. The pattern is McCall's M7099. It's my second time using it now and I really like it. When cutting, I made the same adjustments as last time and I lengthened the shorts by a few inches. After I tried it on though, the shorts just looked too long (they were almost knee length). So I shortened them up for a sportier look.

I've loved wearing this jumpsuit. It's perfect for lazy weekends. I feel like I can look a little put together without trying hard and without compromising comfort.
