DIY Faux Wrap Dress – Review of the Reggie Dress by Seamwork

DIY Faux Wrap Dress – Review of the Reggie Dress by Seamwork

Hello sew-friends! I have a new dress to share with you today! It's the last in my recent series of unseasonable clothing. lol I started making this dress in August or September and finished it in late October. I wanted to try to get it done for my trip in October but alas it didn't make the cut. And now it's November and it's a little too cold to wear it. Sure, I could layer on tights and turtleneck but these colors feel so summery. That said! I think it's a really pretty and unexpectedly, it feels very Regency to me. (If you're curious what Regency style dresses look like, check out this Pinterest board.)

So, to go with my Regency dress, I thought it would be fun to talk about one of my favorite authors, Jane Austen. But first, let's talk about the dress.

DIY V-neck tank and shorts set – Miri Tank and Flint Shorts

Hello! I'm back with another not-seasonally-appropriate but much loved DIY to share. And, it's a matching two piece set–often called a two-piece-setacular here in the sewing world. Just like last week's swim top, I made this set for my trip to Hawaii last month. It was a really lovely trip and so nice to get away and explore the islands. Before the trip, I had a long list of things that I wanted to make (isn't that always the case!). I didn't get through all of them but I did manage to whip up this cute set. The top is an early version of my Miri Tank Top that I had never fully finished and the shorts are the Flint Shorts by Megan Nielsen.

How to sew gathers - Video tutorial

This week's video tutorial teaches how to sew gathers. I've heard that sewists are sometimes intimidated by gathers, so I'm sharing my favorite methods for sewing stress-free, evenly spaced gathers.

Gathers are a common design detail found in a variety of garments. Most often, you’ll find them in skirts or sleeves. For my Miri dress hack, I made a simple gathered skirt using rectangles of fabric. It's a really easy way to add a skirt or peplum and is zero-waste friendly.

I’m sharing the traditional method of sewing lines of basting stitches with thread. There are other ways to do it but I’ve always had success with my tried-and-true methods. Scroll on to watch the video and read the written instructions. Happy sewing!
