DIY Outfit – Everyday Knit Dress

You might have noticed that I've been posting a little less than usual the last couple of weeks. My freelance graphic design work is really keeping me busy and I just haven't had the time to blog. I'm still sneaking in a little bit of sewing and instagramming. Even though I'm busy with work, I still want to do some DIY, so super quick and easy projects are the order of the day. Today, I have a little DIY inspiration for a simple dress, perfect for the approaching Fall season. You're thinking about your Fall wardrobe too, right? I can't wait!

How to DIY an Everyday Knit Dress

Step 1: Today's inspiration outfit is the Heathered Jersey Dress from Madewell. This is a great dress for transitioning from summer to fall. Plus, this dress would be super comfortable and very fast way to get dressed in the morning. It could be dressed up for work with a blazer, styled for night with a statement necklace or paired with sneakers for weekend errands.

Step 2: The Out and About Dress pattern by Sew Caroline is a very close match to our inspiration dress. To really match our inspiration, omit the sleeves and extend the bodice at the shoulder to create a mini-kimono sleeve. I've made a few shirts and a dress with similar sleeves just by tracing a t-shirt with a shape that I liked.

Step 3: For the fabric, a comfy knit is a must. Girl Charlee has a great selection of very affordable knit fabrics including this gorgeous Heather Gray Knit for only $6 a yard.
