Let's talk about WIP's – What I Sewed in February

Oh February, you little nugget of a month. We barely had time to get to know each other. Between work-work and sewing-work, it was a very busy month even though I didn’t have a lot of projects to blog about. My sewing calendar has the honor of having the not-secret, completed sewing projects recorded on it and since this month had a lot of secret sewing, the calendar has two spots left blank. !!! It leaves me feeling a little unproductive and I have to remind myself that even though I wasn’t blogging as much, I did sew a lot. (Btw, all that secret sewing means that there is hopefully a new pattern on the horizon. Fingers crossed! It’s been almost a year since I released a pattern and I feel like I’ve forgotten how much work goes into it.)

I'm working on planning my projects and my WIPs list is surprisingly short at the moment. At the end of March, I’m going to Japan for about 10 days. I’ve never been before and I’m super excited. I’m going with a friend to visit another friend who lives in Tokyo. We all went to design school together and it will be so fun to be reunited and explore Japan. Of course, I’m doing lots of planning for what to pack and what to sew for the trip. By the way, do you have any tips for traveling in Japan? I’ll be going to Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara.

February finished projects

1. Watson Bra and Bikini
Part of my 2017 Make Nine list, blogged here. I've been wearing the bra pretty often when lounging about the house. It's definitely in the success category and I'm planning to make more.

2. Stars Hollow Quilt Top
I had this in the finished list but I might actually go back and make a change. I used vintage fabric for the blocks but didn’t have long enough pieces of white for the borders so I bought some new fabric. But it’s whiter than the rest. So, now I’m thinking about piecing some of the vintage fabric to make the long borders so that the whites all match. I’m also going to look into having someone else do the actual quilting. I’ve done it myself before on a conventional machine and basically hate every minute of it. (Pattern is the  Stars Hollow Quilt by Suzy Quilts.)

3. Blue Abstract Print Peplum Top
This one has been on the WIPs list for a long time and I made a point of finishing it before the end of the month. Stay tuned for a blog post on this one, sneak peek below. (Pattern is the Peplum Top from Peppermint Magazine)

4. Virginia Leggings
As part of the #SewMyStyle project, I put together a post for Bluebird Fabrics with tips for sewing the Virginia Leggings by Megan Nielsen. To prep for the post, I made a new pair and did a little stirrup hack which will be on the BERNINA We All Sew blog soon. I’ll make sure to let you know when it goes live because it’s super cool. :)

Also check out my top 5 favorite podcasts of the month. And tell me what your faves are too. :)

Current WIPs

1. Ebony Woven Pants
I was intending to bring these to Japan with me but during construction I’ve noticed that the fabric I chose wrinkles a lot. So, I may not bring them after all. But I think they’re going to be cool pants and I may even finish them today. (Pattern is Ebony Woven Pant from StyleArc)

2. Find Your Fade Shawl
I’m already on my third color in this shawl. And to the part where the rows are really, really long. It’s a nice project to work on while watching tv, much easier to zone out with than sewing. (Pattern is the Find Your Fade shawl by Drea Renee Knits)

I don't think I've ever had only two works in progress before!!! It's shockingly short. Perhaps I'm becoming more disciplined? lololololll It is a new year after all. 2017 might be the year that I stay focused on just a few projects at a time. I'll check back in next month and let you know.

P.S. If you're looking for a fun way to track your projects, check out my FREE printable Sewing Calendar (pictured in the top photo). I've really enjoyed seeing so many people using their calendars on Instagram. Thank you guys for following along and HAPPY SEWING!!!
