DIY Roundup – 10 Trousers Sewing Patterns for Spring

I've been sewing more and more pants over the last couple of years. I started off last year with the Hudson Pants and this year I've moved on to more fitted pants. I shared Vogue V8836 last week and I have more planned. In the summer months, I tend to wear lots of dresses and skirts but once the temperatures dip, I need to stay a little bit warmer and pants are an easy solution. As we head into Spring, here are a few of the patterns that I have my eye on.

10 Trousers Sewing Patterns for Spring

1. Simplicity 8058 I love the flared design of these pants. It's so nice to play with something other than skinnies.

2. StyleArc Ebony Woven Pants The front pleats of these pants make me feel all swoony and heart eyes.

3. Vogue V1464 Sailor pants for the win! I bought this pattern and just need the right fabric and buttons to sew it up.

4. McCall's M7098 I love the casual cropped design of these pants.

5. Moji Pants by Seamwork Magazine These have been on my list for a while. I think they'll be perfect for spring and summer.

6. Wyome Boyfriend Jeans by Named Clothing. I love the button fly and angled pockets on these stylish jeans.

7. Wanda Pants by Schnittchen. Exposed front zipper anyone?

8. Birkin Flares by Baste & Gather. I love this pattern and you can see my version of it right here.

9. Alexandria Peg Trousers by Named Clothing. Another classic, cropped pant, perfect for spring.

10. Hampshire Trousers by Califaye Collection. A fairly new pattern release. These look like a classic, soon to be tried and true pattern.

Do you have a favorite pants pattern? Or something you're planning to make this year?

The Quest for Dresses

The Quest for Dresses

I keep looking in my closet for a dress to wear and find myself hating everything. Everything!! I addressed the issue somewhat with my fall sewing plans with my two versions of the Inari Tee Dress but I’m still not satisfied. I’d like to be able to open my closet, see a row of options and want to wear all of them right now.

There are a few requirements for the perfect everyday dress. First the dress needs to fit my body. Last year I got rid of a lot of the dresses that no longer fit as well as they used to (I lost some weight over the last few years which means a lot of my handmade things became too big). Second, I need to feel comfortable wearing it. It shouldn’t be too flashy or too revealing and it needs to play well with the other things in my wardrobe.

Here are the top 5 dress patterns that I plan on adding to my wardrobe this year. I've made a few of them and a couple I've yet to try. Read on for all the details!

12 Easy Handmade Holiday Gifts

I've done a lot of DIY tutorials over the years and a lot of the projects make really great gifts. So I thought, why not round them up and share again. There are just a few days before Christmas but these projects are all really to do and most take just an hour or two. Back before my working days, I had a lot of downtime around the holidays to sit back and craft. I especially loved making quick knits like my cabled hat for all of my family members. So if you have a little bit of time before the festivities take off, why not make a little something for someone special. And when you're done crafting, download my free printable Handmade Gifts Tags to wrap up your presents with something extra special.
